Spirit, Soul and body

There’s a powerful truth that will change your life, it will change how we live, pray, and walk with God: you are not just a body, you are a spirit, you have a soul, and you live in a body.

When we understand this, everything begins to make sense—our struggles, our growth, and our relationship with the Holy Spirit.

You Are a Spirit

At your core, you are a spirit. This is the real you, the part of you that connects directly with God.

“God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” (John 4:24)

Your spirit is where:

  • You are born again

  • You hear God’s voice

  • The Holy Spirit dwells

When you gave your life to Jesus, your spirit was made alive.

“That which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” (John 3:6)

Your spirit doesn’t need improvement, it needs expression. It is already righteous, already connected, already alive in Christ.

You Have a Soul

Your soul is your mind, your will, and your emotions. This is where your personality lives.

The soul is incredibly powerful, but it must be renewed through reading, studying and meditating on the word of God.

“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” (Romans 12:2)

Your soul is where:

  • Thoughts are formed

  • Decisions are made

  • Emotions are felt

Many believers are spiritually alive but still struggle because their soul is not renewed. They live from feelings instead of truth, from fear instead of faith.

Transformation happens when your soul comes into agreement with your spirit.

You Live in a Body

Your body is the physical vessel that allows you to operate in this world.

“Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit…?” (1 Corinthians 6:19)

Your body:

  • Connects you to the natural world

  • Expresses what is happening internally

  • Must be disciplined, not followed blindly

The body is not evil, but it must not be in control. When the body leads, it pulls you toward comfort, pleasure, and often sin. When the spirit leads, the body becomes an instrument of righteousness.

The Order Matters

Here’s where many people get it wrong:

  • Body-led life: “I feel it, so I do it.”

  • Soul-led life: “I think it, so it’s true.”

  • Spirit-led life: “God said it, so I believe and act.”

God designed us to live from the inside out:Spirit → Soul → Body

When your spirit leads:

  • Your soul comes into peace

  • Your thoughts align with truth

  • Your body follows in obedience

Living Spirit-Led

Walking in the fullness of Christ means learning to live from your spirit.

This looks like:

  • Praying in the Spirit

  • Meditating on the Word

  • Choosing truth over feelings

  • Yielding to the Holy Spirit daily

You stop being controlled by circumstances and start being led by God.

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” (Romans 8:14)

In Closing

You are not trying to become spiritual, you already are. The journey is learning to live from that reality. When your spirit leads, your life changes. When your soul is renewed, your mind is transformed. When your body submits, your life reflects Christ.

This is where freedom begins.
